I’m Norie! Welcome to my site!
I was born and raised in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. I moved to Denman Island B.C, Canada in 2006 with my husband, two sons, two cats and a dog.
I grew up cooking traditional Japanese food with a passion, and have studied different culinary styles over the years.
For many years I was very interested In Microbiotics, healthy living and finding the balance (Ying & Yang) within healthy food and art/beauty.
Making sushi has allowed me to explore my creative side and my “Mandala Sushi” has become a favourite at many local events. I have offered cooking classes over the years within the community and I love sharing what I know. I cater events when called upon, and you can sometimes find me at the Saturday Market. Sample my delicious and beautiful sushi!
I offer gluten free, vegan, and full seafood sushi platters for your special event.
My site name “Noriemaki” is my friend’s idea…
Came from “NORIE” + “NORI-MAKI”. NORI Means seaweed and MAKI means roll, the basic sushi rolls, we Call “Nori-Maki” のり巻き. I really liked her idea!
I look forward sharing my recipes and stories of Japanese food with you.
I hope you will enjoy it!
